The Homeless

Understanding Poverty

A woman who has experienced poverty, in this country and other cultures, told me her understanding of the four tests of the Ordeal.

My daughter experienced her Order of the Arrow Ordeal about a year after mine. She asked me what the tests of the Ordeal were meant to teach. I explained that it gives us a personal experience in what it is like to be poor. To live as a homeless person. Without the comforts that we enjoy.

The beauty of the four tests of the Ordeal is that they reach different people in different ways. And teach different things. They supply meaning and resolution to your life objectives. Courage to explore your inner thoughts and beliefs.

None of which will take place with the new induction proposal.

I oppose any change to the Ordeal that would interfere with this woman’s fabulous interpretation of the experience.
